This unique vintage postcard was sent to Miss Frances C. Bendix of New York, New York. The street address, #165 E. 49th St., is listed at the bottom left, adding to its uniqueness.
The front of the card features the Capitol in Harrisburg, PA, a significant landmark in the history of the United States. The Capitol, designed by architect Joseph Miller Huston, was completed in 1906 and has since been a symbol of Pennsylvania's rich history and political significance, particularly during the Civil War era.
The sender leaves a personal monogram, HBI, a date, and a personal message: "the other is what it used to be, this is what it is to be, of what it is now they have no cards." This cryptic message may reflect the sender's contemplation on the passage of time and the changing nature of things.
There are two postmarks, front/back, dated 1903, and the original stamp, a tangible link to the past, is still affixed.
HISTORY NOTE
Traditional initial order, known as a three-letter monogram, places the last name initial in the center, typically larger than the flanking letters. The first name initial appears on the left, and the middle name initial is on the right.
